Lynx Golf Course at Westlake Village, previously named Westlake Village Golf Course, is a public 18-hole golf course in Winnebago, Illinois, between Rockford and Freeport, Illinois, about 90 miles west of downtown Chicago.
The course was designed in 1999 by David Esler, who also designed Black Sheep Golf Club outside Chicago, which is No. 8 in Illinois on Golfweek’s Best 2021 private golf courses in every state.
Par for the course is 71. From the back tees, the course plays to 6,881 yards. From the forward tees, the course measures 5,376 yards. The longest hole on the course is # 5, a par-5 that plays 610 yards. The shortest hole on the course is # 4, a par-3 187 yards from the back tees.
Watch out for # 5, the 610-yard par-5 challenge, and the #1 handicap hole on the course. The easiest hole at Lynx is # 14, a 195-yard par-3.
The course closed in 2018 after losing over $125,000 for each of the previous 6 years. The course was reopened in 2022.
